History
The School of Humanities was created in 1955 and it comprised a Section of History. In 1958, when the School was elevated to the rank of Faculty of Humanities, the Section of History was elevated to the rank of School, being established in 1963 with three departments: Anthropology and Sociology, History of America and Venezuela and Universal History.
Since its creation, the School of History strives for establishing itself as a national model in History teaching, where professionals can opt for research, the cultural extension of historical knowledge or preservation of the country's collective memory.
The School of History of the University of Los Andes has the mission to educate individuals capable of collaborating with the task of rescuing the regional, national and international past and producing knowledge about the individual and collective memory of the people. Likewise, it seeks to form a "social scientist" of multidisciplinary character.

Structure
Nowadays, the School of History of the Faculty of Humanities and Education of the University of Los Andes has three departments: History of America and Venezuela, Universal History and Anthropology and Sociology.
Research
The School of History of the University of Los Andes has 4 Research Centers: the Center for Ethnological Studies and the Center for Historical Studies "Carlos Emilio Muñoz Oráa", which are under direct command of the School Board. Moreover, there is a Center for African and Asian Studies which belongs to the Department of Universal History and a Center for Research in Human Sciences, which is coordinated by the Department of Anthropology and Sociology.
Furthermore, the School of History has active research groups that fulfill academic tasks of teaching and researching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Among them, we count the Historiography Group of Venezuela, attached to the Department of History of America and Venezuela and also the Research Group on History of Ideas in Latin America (GRHIAL) attached to the Department of Universal History For further information, please refer to Research
