On June 25th, 1955 the Academic Council of the University of Los Andes decreted the establishment of the School of Humanities assigned to the Faculty of Law. This School would be in charge of two departments, History and Literature. Its first director was Dr. Luis Espineti Dini. On July 12th, 1958, after regional and national efforts, the School of Humanities was promoted to the category of faculty. Its mission would be the promotion and development of humanistic studies, as well as to enrich the spiritual heritage of the nation. Its first dean was Dr. Carlos César Rodríguez.

The Faculty of Humanities continued working with two departments, History and Literature, later they became schools. In 1959, the Education School was created. On September 15th, 1959 the National Council of Universities approved the creation of the Education School for the University of Los Andes, concretely the faculty of humanities. On September 16, 1966 by decision of the Universities National Council the Education School was also opened in the university campus located in Táchira State. After the creation of History, Literary and Education Schools, by decision of the Universities National Council, the Audiovisual Media School was created and in June 28th, 1998 the Modern Languages School was stablished and its activities started in November that same year. From its beginning until now, the Faculty of Humanities and Education has continued working without stopping.
