The graduate studies are one of the main activities of the University of Los Andes since it combines the scientific, technological, humanistic, social and aesthetic interests of the higher education institutions and the society. The University of Los Andes accomplishes its mission through the creation, assimilation and dissemination of scientific, technological and humanistic knowledge. Equally important is the research and teaching work based on freedom, equality, equity and human solidarity. The commitment of the University is to guard and maintain our fundamental values, our mission and vision towards the world, the environment and the society.

 

The tasks of the Graduate Studies Council include: 

• Increasing of the academic offer and the graduate enrollment.

• Offering of interdisciplinary graduate courses with an integrative, systemic and globalizing approach and knowledge, in order to be in tune with the regional and global trends that look for the development of sustainable plans, programs and projects. 

• Promotion of the relationship with agencies from different sectors of the economy, especially the agricultural, environmental, energy and social sectors to know their requirements in professional training.

• Increasing of nonacademic degree graduate activities to act in response to the requirements of the public sector and in accordance to the guidelines of our country’s Plan of Economic and Social Development. 

• Approval of the Teaching Assistants. Teaching Assistants are highly graduate students who work as undergraduate teachers.

• Evaluation of the regulations and policies of the Graduate Studies Council and current regulations on graduate studies at a national an international levels in order to analyze the study programs of graduate certificates.

• Performance of international activities of cooperation in order to promote access to scholarships to students from the Latin American and Caribbean region, and the participation of international consultants, teachers and investigators from prestigious universities 

• Creation of graduate networks programs and strategic alliances based on inter institutional nature, both nationally and internationally, to facilitate the exchange of students, teachers and tutors.

• Strengthening of the existing graduate programs and managing of their accreditation and recognition at both the national and international levels.

• Development of self-evaluation and external evaluation process for the graduate study programs.

• Management of the graduate study programs on developing stages.
